Oursa is a cat residing in an artist residency and cultural center that was the former home of Albanian dictator Enver Hoxha. Here, the camera lens follows Oursa’s daily activities: observing, lurking, sleeping, and toying with smaller prey, bringing lizards into the vast hallways of the building and often leaving them frozen and partially dismembered. These clips are intentionally not arranged as a narrative, but rather as a sequential, loosely categorized index.
As a two-channel video installation, the work is projected in site-specific architectural interventions within the room. Beneath the projections, mirror panels reflect these scenes back to us, implicating our own presence in this house and what it means for us to be here.
Installation shots by Atdhe Mulla and Wandrille Potez. Video color correction by Pascual Sisto.
With many thanks to Oursa, Amie Barouh for adopting Oursa into the villa, Elmæ Muslija, and the Vila 31 x Art Explora team for all of their help in producing this work.
